How to measure for curtains

  • Ideally please install your track or pole before taking your measurements, however if you decide to measure before fitting your track or pole then you should be able to fix the track or pole to accommodate the actual drop of the finished curtains.

  • The track or pole should extend beyond the window and sill at either side, to allow room for the curtains to be drawn back off the window.

  • Usually between 15cm and 20cm is sufficient but to optimise the light from your window, we recommend your pole extends approx 30cm either side of the window for goblet and tab headed curtains.

Width

  • Please measure the track or pole, not the window itself.

  • For tracks: measure the width from end to end ( see diagram 1)

 If the track overlaps in the middle, include the overlap (seediagram 2

  • For poles: measure the width between the decorative finials (see diagram 3)

  • All our Made To Measure Curtains are made to close comfortable with a certain amount of ease incorporatedin them.

 

Drop

  • Except where tracks are ceiling fixed, pinch pleat heading are being used or a valance/pelmet is being fixed in front, measure from the top of the track to allow it to be hidden by the curtains (see diagram 4)

 

  • For poles: measure from the underside of the curtain ring to allow the pole to be seen above the curtains (see diagram 5)

 

  • For eyelet curtains: please measure from the top of the pole and add 3.5cm

  • For tab-headed curtains : measure from the top of the pole. To minimise light exposure we recommend you position your pole a minimum of 15 cm above the top of the window

  • Measure from the correct point to (see diagram 6)

    • -5mm above the shortest sill length (please measure in at least three places along sill)

      -the desired length for below sill length

      -5mm above the floor for full length - please check drop in several places.

How to measure for Roman Blinds

Roman Blinds can sit either inside or outside a window recess. Measurements can be supplied in inches ( to the nearest one eigth), millimeters or centimeters if preferred

  • Carefully measure the length from the top of the recess to the bottom in two or three places and select which size you prefer.

  • Measure the width at the top of the recess in the position where the blind is to be fitted - making sure to take into account any protruding handles or air vents.

  • Measure the width at least two other points of the recess, i.e. in the middle and the bottom (see diagram 7 ). Record the lowest of them to ensure the blind does not snag when being lowered.

 

  • outside a window recess

  • To obtain the length, measure from the required position above the window down to the required length.

  • To obtain the width, measure the width of the window and add approx. 14cmto allow sufficient overlap at each side of the window - if the window sill is wider than this, record the window sill width ( See diagram 8 )

 

Technical Information

Fabrics

Pattern Repeat, Product Width and Pattern Alignment

Pattern repeats and product widths are accurate to +/- 5%. when making multiple width curtains please ensure that pattern alignment is adequate to produce a satisfactory result prior to cutting.

Check for Flaws

Once received please examine fabric for any flaws. Check pattern,  colourway and quantity . Once received please examine fabric in its entirety for any flaws. Report any flaws or faults immediately, please take photos as this will speed the process up.NEVER cut the fabric until completely sure it is acceptable: Check pattern,  colourway and quantity . Any discrepancy must be notified within 48 hours of receipt if possible .  must be notified within 48 hours of receipt if possible . In any event, no consideration will be given to defects not reported within 28 days. We regret that once cloth has been cut the relevant manufacturer will decline to replace or refund any faulty fabric. We regret that once cloth has been cut we cannot accept returns.

Multiple Width Products

A fabric is not completely stable, it is always possible that the pattern will not be completely square on the cloth. whilst every effort is made to avoid distortion, a commercial tolerance is to be expected

Shrinkage, Atmospheric Conditions...

The possibility of +/-  5% shrinkage or relaxation should always be taken into account when making curtains, blinds, loose covers etc. Movements of curtains in situ: atmospheric conditions vary and we cannot accept responsibility for movement . Generally curtains should hang away from the glass to avoid possible soiling and deterioration caused by condensation.

Fabric used as Drapes, Light Exposure

When held against the light fabrics cannot be guaranteed to be free of visible flaws.

Eventually most dyes fade on exposure to light, the main cause being sunlight,  colour failure can occur rapidly on exposed areas such as the leading edge. To reduce natural fading, curtains should always be lined with a good quality light proof lining. Artificial light can also cause fading.  Some colours, particularly pastel colours are particularly sensitive to light.

Upholstery fabrics should be kept out of direct sunlight.

Suitability for Drapes and Blinds

Certain fabrics such as Harlequins Akina, Kira and Kana and Clarke & Clarke Crescendo are bonded or pocket weaves and have a complex construction.  Two layers of fabric woven simultaneously and joined with the chenille/cotton yarn to create the design of the fabric.  This technique gives a slightly quilted and or rippled look to finished curtains or blinds which is a characteristic of the construction and should be taken into account.

Inherent characteristics of Certain Fabrics

Silk Fabrics are natural products and need to be protected from the harmful effects of the sun.  Due to the delicate nature nature of the fibre, silk fabrics should be kept out of strong direct sunlight and curtains and blinds should be lined or interlined.  Glass magnifies the destructive elements of sun-rays and winter sun is as harmful as summer sun. Impurities in the air may also cause as much fading as sun. Colour can also fade or alter from oxidation, this being the process where moisture in the atmosphere reacts with certain materials causing discolouration.  Oxidation can also occur if silk is stored in an area of poor circulation. No claims can be accepted for the fading of silk fabrics.

The inherent handwriting of this natural fibre is characterised by slubs and natural weave irregularities ( Slubs, Nubs and Ladders ) which enhance the total appearance -  this is not a defect.

Faux Silks are produced to replicate the appearance of real silk and imperfections and irregularities are an intentional characteristc and are not classed as flaws.

Linen and Linen Unions have a tendency to crease which can be evident in curtains and blinds. Care should be taken when handling to minimise this

Voiles and Sheers,.. fully joining the widths is not recommended, only at the heading. Removing the white selvedge may be necessary to maintain the sheer appearance of the drape.

When choosing your fabric and wallpaper it is the clients responsibility to ensure that the product is suitable for their needs and requirements. We can accept no responsibility for our customers choice of product.

WALLPAPERS

Wallpapers are generally supplied in rolls approx. 10.05 metres long but please check individual designs before ordering.

In the event of a wallpaper complaint, a sample of the imperfection and a roll label MUST be submitted for each roll claimed.  NO claim will be allowed for any wallcovering hung in excess of one roll. If a problem is encountered, DO NOT continue to hang or cut the goods. The seller cannot be held responsible for any labour charges or consequential losses incurred. The user MUST accept responsibility once work has commenced.  Ensure that all rolls of wallcovering are examined prior to application for batch number, design, colour and inperfections.

In the event of a claim being agreed, at our discretion,  either the client will receive a replacement roll of wallpaper for each roll deemed to be faulty or a credit note to the same value will be issued ( any credit note issued will be valued for three months after the date of issue ). Where the goods have been accepted by the client, in the unlikely event of a suitable replacement not being found, at our discretion a refund may be made but this will incure an administration fee of 25% of the value of the wallcovering.

Colour Match

Slight variances may occur between batches.

Dark Ground Wallpapers

In certain circumstances, you may wish to consider colouring the edges with a water soluble crayon before hanging. For more information contact our Customer Services.

All of our wool hand tufted rugs are handmade by artisans therefore slight variations in colour and pattern may occur, adding to the individual and unique quality of each rug.

Terms & Conditions

You agree to be bound to the following terms and conditions once you place an order or orders with us. When you order goods from us, we will treat it as an offer by you to purchase the goods and acceptance of both our terms and conditions and privacy policy in their entirety. You must be 18 or over to order goods from us.

Measurements

Where clients own measurements are used to make Made to Measure items it is most important that the measurements provided are accurate at point of order. Please follow the measuring instructions or contact us before confirming your order. Should it turn out that we were supplied incorrect measurements we will, wherever possible alter the goods to the correct size but the client will be invoiced for any additional cost.  With some type of fabrics or headings this may not be possible. We will not be liable for any problems arising from incorrect measurements supplied to us. Whilst we make every effort to supply the goods exactly to the measurements supplied by you, please note that due to atmospheric conditions, shrinkage, fabric composition and pattern matching there may be a slight variation in the finished product. Weaves, fabrics with pile such as velvets, bonded and Natural fabrics in particular can be more susceptible to movement and pile drag.  Please allow for up to a 5% variation.

When making Double or Triple Pinch pleat headings where ever possible any seam will be incorporated within a Pleat but this can not be guaranteed. As a general rule we allow at least twice the pole or track width when calculating the amount of curtain widths. Our curtains are designed to close comfortably with a certain amount of ease.

Fabrics

Every care has been taken to ensure descriptions are as accurate as possible. Whilst every effort has been made to reproduce the colour of fabrics online these may not be 100% accurate, so if in doubt please click here to request a sample pack of up to 10 items. A cutting is intended as a representation of the fabric but it may not be an exact match to the current stock as there may be slight variances between batches. If a precise match is required please request a stock sample for approval prior to ordering. A stock sample is a cutting that has been takenfrom stock. Delivery

For items such as Fabrics, Wallpapers and Accessories wherever possible we aim to dispatch same day, to be delivered next working day. If items are out of stock we will advise you of the expected delivery date. If acceptable, the item will be placed on a˜backorder "If you have more than one item on order, we can arrange to ship the available item straight away and send on the delayed product as soon as it becomes available. You will be able to cancel the out-of-stock item and receive a full refund up until the point it comes back into stock.

For International Destinations outside the EU, please note you will be charged custom fees for purchases entering your country from the UK.  Usually these are payable to the carrier at point of delivery, in some cases the carrier will apply an invoice shortly after delivery. Delivery prices from the UK are calculated on both finished weight and volume

Claims for Loss or Damage and Discrepancies of MTM items.

Any claims for loss or damage to a parcel or its contents including discrepancies must be reported to us within 48 hours of receipt of goods. If a parcel is damaged please clearly sign the couriers documents as being damaged. Made to Measure items are non refundable but in the unlikely event there are any defects, we would be happy to rectify them provided they are reported to us within 48 hours of receipt and the item returned to us, in the same condition as received, within 14 days of receipt. It is the buyers responsibility to safely return the item.

Returns Policy

Re-saleable items (that have not been specifically ordered for a client or cut to length) such as certain Tassel Tie Backs, curtain hooks etc may be returned and a full refund ( less the delivery charge ) will be given,  provided they are in a perfect condition. It is the buyers responsibility to pay the return postage and ensure that the package is safely returned. Please inform us in writing within 7 working days of receipt of the item. Returns of cut length fabric and wallpaper orders are not normally possible if the fabric length is less than 5 metres or if the quantity of wallpaper is less than 5 rolls. Fabric companies do impose a restocking fee which is typically 25% of the order value and this would be deducted from any refund given to you. All costs relating to postage for returns are the buyers responsibility. Also governed by these terms and conditions are the complete range Branded Cushions and throws. We would need to be informed in writing within 7 working days of receipt of the item.

Return of Cushions & Throws

All our Branded Cushions and Zinc TextileThrows , ( Zinc Textiles, Kirkby Design, Clarke & Clarke, Ashley Wilde,= &  Kai cushions ) are specifically ordered for a clients requirements and not classed as re-saleable. These may not be returned for a full refund unless found to be faulty. However, In some circumstances depending on each individual manufacturers policy , they may be returned subject to the manufacturers re-stocking fee which is usually 20/25% of their value and the client will also be responsiblefor the return delivery charge.

We strongly advice that fabric samples are requested before ordering any branded cushions

Cancellations

Fabrics, Wallcoverings and Branded Cushions

The order process begins almost immediately the payment has been receivedby us. However, in cases where the fabric has not been cut to length or the wallpaper and cushions have not been packaged a full refund could be made. After that time restocking/handling fees as outlined above would be charged.

Made To Measure

Providing no work has commenced, cancellations of Made To Measure items are acceptable. However, any non-resaleable items such as Fabrics, Poles,  Tracks etc already purchased in preparation for the order and paid for at point of order can not be refunded. These would be delivered to the customer within 7 days of cancellation.

What if my order arrives damaged?

Should any parcels be damaged in transit, these must be signed for with the courier as damaged. We cannot make any compensation for goods that are signed for as having been received in good condition when damage has occurred in transit. How will my fabric be packaged?

Generally, fabric is dispatched on a roll. In some cases, it may be necessary to fold the fabric, but this is rare.

 

Will I be able to Order Fabric or Wallpaper if it is out of stock

If your item is out of stock we will advise you of the estimated delivery date and if you are happy, we will place the item on back order so that it will arrive as soon as new stocks arrive.

What about VAT charges?

We only accept orders within the UK. However, for reference :- For orders made from the UK or the European Union, VAT is added -  (currently 20% )  All other orders are VAT free. Please note that the receipient of any goods outside the European Union will be responsible for any customs and import duties that may be applied at any time.

Can I have my order delivered to an address delivered to an address other than my home address?

Yes, we are happy to send orders to an address other than the billing address, such as a work or neighbours address.

Do you accept payment by Paypal,  BACS and over the Telephone?

Yes, please advise us of your preferred method of payment at point of order.

Do I have to have my curtains Lined?

No, if preferred we will make your curtains unlined. However, please note that we do recommend them to be lined as it improves their drape and appearance, improves their insulation and protects from sunlight damage.

Can I iron my curtains and Blinds?

That depends, please check if your fabric is suitable for ironing and if possible iron from the inside. Our hand made headings may crease in transit, any transit creases should be carefully ironed out. Please allow a few weeks for any general creases to fall and the appearance to settle.

Delivery of non-stock items

The vast majority of our Fabrics , Wallcoverings, Branded Cushions and Throws, Poles and Lighting are dispatched directly from the Manufacturer. Please see our FAQ page. Please note we only supply products within the UK.

Returns Policy

Re-saleable items (that have not been specifically ordered for a client or cut to length) such as certain Tassel Tie Backs, curtain hooks etc may be returned and a full refund ( less the delivery charge ) will be given,  provided they are in a perfect condition. It is the buyers responsibility to pay the return postage and ensure that the package is safely returned. Please inform us in writing within 7 working days of receipt of the item. FABRICS & WALLPAPERS

One received please check the quantity of fabric to make sure there is not a shortfall or any Fault. In line with the Industry Standard Fabric is occasionally dispatched from the Fabric Manufacturer with known faults . These are clearly marked with a plastic barb and extra fabric is included to accommodate the fault. Textiles by the nature of the weaving or printing process are rarely 100% perfect. Fabric should ideally be checked within 24 hours and no longer than 28 days. Please notify us of any faults or problems as soon as noticed where we will do our upmost to resolve any problem as swiftly as posable.Please take photographs of any faults and measurements of the location of them as these greatly help the speed in which problems can be solved. Options offered can vary between a full replacement of fabric, a partial replacement of the shortfall or a full refund depending on the circumstance and Manufacturers discretion. Fabrics should NEVER be cut until the person handling them is satisfied that the fabric is acceptable .

Wallpaper orders, once received please Inspect the batch numbers to ensure that they are the same.we recommend that the paste used is the one recommended by the manufacturer. The person hanging the wallpaper should hang 2/3 drops and then inspect fir any problems, shading or faults. If any are noticed no further wallpaper should be hung and the problem should be reported to us immediately.. No costs can be allowed for goods hung in excess of the faulty roll . Please read the advice labels included with every roll of wallpaper and retain the for future reference .

This comes down to the Manufacturer concerned.  All costs and responsibilities relating to postage for returns are the buyers responsibility. Please make sure that whoever estimates quantitie for you is aware of these T&Cs and they are proficient in doing so. We generally advise using a professional tradesperson when hanging Wallpaper.  Also governed by these terms and conditions are the complete range Branded Cushions and throws. We would need to be informed in writing within 7 working days of receipt of the item.

Return of Cushions & Throws

However, In some circumstances depending on each individual manufacturers policy , they may be returned subject to the manufacturers re-stocking fee which is usually 20/25% of their value and the client will also be responsiblefor the return delivery charge. We strongly recommend our clients not to purchase any cushions unless they have receved a sample of their chosen fabric and they are satisfied the cushions are suitible for their requirements.

VILLA NOVA & ROMO RUG RETURNS POLICY

All returns must be notified to us within 7 days of receipt of your order quoting your name and order details and reason for return.

Any custom size rug or bespoke design is non-returnable.

The rug must returned to Romo Head Office within 14 days unless otherwise agreed.

To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in the original packaging.

Once a return is agreed Romo will arrange to uplift the rug and it will be turned to Romo Head Office for inspection. Providing it is returned in a resealable condition they will refund the cost of the rug less 5% of the purchase price if returned within 7 working days and less 10% if returned within 14 days. Returns after that time will not be considered .
